About Madakani House
This historic Shela house is situated in the heart of the village just before the Shela walkway bridge with an open view of the village landscape and the Shela sand dunes.
Madakani house is a traditional swahili coral stone house, dating from the 17th century to the beginning of the 18th. It is one of only 3 houses from the same period in Shela. It has been furnished with antique swahili furniture, giving the house an authentic and unique feel.
Accommodation
The house has a total of 3 bedrooms with plenty of remarkable open spaces and is ideal for 5-6 guests.
In classic arab-swahili architecture the house has an internal courtyard-garden, and three open galleries on the ground floor, with original plasterwork decorations and niches, and very high ceilings for cooling and ventilation.
The house has been restored and extended by two floors with an additional rooftop terrace. The first floor follows the same architecture as the ground floor, only with two galleries instead of three. The first gallery is a verandah, the next is a studio-bedroom and bathroom apartment and the third was an ancient kitchen now transformed into a cozy double bedroom.
The second floor of Madakani House is a very large bedroom (2 double beds and 1 twin) with a bathroom and private verandah.
Finally, the roof top is covered with a traditional makuti thatched roof, made of palm leaves and the cool chill-out terrace is perfect for relaxing and entertaining.
Staff & Dining
The house is self-catering, with a professional chef and an experienced room steward. The cost of meals is approximately KES 2,000 (€20) per person per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) but will of course vary according to the menu you select.

Upon confirming rates and availability, you will receive an electronic invoice and a deposit can then be made by credit card, paypal, m-pesa or bank transfer to confirm your booking.
On receipt of your deposit, we will send you a receipt, confirmation, and voucher for your stay. The balance of the rental is due 14 days prior to arrival.
