About Dar El Eden
Traditional swahili character house from the 18th century carefully restaured and expanded in 2009. The spacious home is situated in the heart of the historic part of lamu town at 200m from the sea front. This coral stone house maintains all of its original architecture, using local traditional materials, plastering techniques and decoration. The Lamu Town house still has its original 3,5 m ceilings and walls with carved niches, freezes and alcove decorations.
The 4 level-home is the highest private home in the Old Town suiting up to 13 persons with a swimming pool on the ground floor and a 360 degree terrace with panoramic view over the historic town. The third floor
terraces and verandas on the upper floors also boast stunning views of the Lamu channel.
Accommodation
Dar El Eden has 5 ensuite bedrooms with hot water powered by solar pannels and large bathrooms (minimum 12 m2) with ceiling fans and complete mosquitos nets.
Rooms have handcrafted swahili beds and furniture, made by local artisans, including new mattresses and european linens.
The house is ideal for several couples and families with bedrooms, kitchens, terraces and cushioned seating areas on 3 different levels for total calm and privacy.
During the construction and planning of the house cooling and wind circulation was taken into account and all rooms and bedrooms have at least 2 sides openings to capture the sea brease.
The general decor was inspired by local african and arabic elements including maps and caligraphy.
Ground floor : swimming pool, kitchenette, reception and TV lounges, one full bedroom.
First floor: open terrace, main kitchen, double dining room, saloon, sheesha lounge, one full bedroom
Second floor : one queen bedroom ,one king bedroom including also a single bed, one king bedroom with mezzanine including another full bed, private open or covered terraces for the three bedrooms.
Third floor is a 110m2 top roof terrace with makuti thatched roof and an open air discreet area for sunbathing. Includes kitchenette, hanging and swinging beds and various cushioned seating areas.

Dining & Staff
Self catering but includes Ngobo, the house keeper who is available for cooking and shopping. He will keep a record of all expenditures to be settled prior to departure.
A second housekeeper will be included for a minimum of 8 guests in the house.
Meals can be served on the first floor dining room or on the rooftop terrace.
Your stay includes breakfast, laundry and airport transfers.

On receipt of your deposit, we will send you a receipt, confirmation, and voucher for your stay. The balance of the rental is due prior to or upon your arrival.
